Eating your customer’s complexity—Television Content

To increase monetization–eat your customer's complexity.

All success lies in simplicity. In this vein, Sam Ovens penned one of my favourite mantras for creating increased monetization.
Eat your customer's complexity.’

For sure, Amazon aligns with this model–but many businesses struggle to break through the complexity fog.

A simple way to get your eating complexity monetization going is to view three axes

  1. medium

  2. packaging

  3. use

In this television content industry scenario, the medium shifted from fixed medium [television] to multi-medium [tv's, computers, ipads].

The packaging went from aggregated/bundled to unbundled while usage changed from a mostly all-in model to use metrics.

Eating customers-content-consumption-complexity meant a change in medium, unbundling serials and recommendation engines to optimize use.
