Monetization Playbook #68 —“When one throws me a peach, I return to him a plum”

Reciprocity, that’s what we need!

"When one throws me a peach, I return to him a plum."

—Mozi: [ Philosopher 470-391 BCE ]

Growing up in the linear TV programming world, we had scant program options.

On Mondays, everybody watched Blue Peter. On Tuesdays, it was Grange Hill.

But Wednesday was the day where we all watched in awe. Wednesday was 'Record Breakers' day!

Here we could watch break the hot-dog-eating record or juggling three balls record.

Any and every record was up for grabs. Five minutes of fame and an entry in the Guinness Book of Records.

Oh, how we sang along with the opening credits–

 'Dedication. Dedication. Dedication.'

'That's what you need.'

'If you wanna be the best, and you wanna beat the rest.'

'Oo-ooh! Dedications what you need.'

'Dedications what you need.'

So what has this got to do with the current age?

Well, dedication is perhaps even more critical in the modern era than in the past.

The internet age has created power-law relationships–the best, dominate the rest.

The best writers can reach a global audience. The best videographers can reach a global audience.

The best podcasters command the airwaves. The best music producers rule the streaming world.

However, in addition to dedication, reciprocation dictates the success of even the most dedicated few. Exchange is the currency of the internet.

Reciprocation between creators. Reciprocation within your community. Reciprocation with the metaverse.

Inspiration gets you noticed. That's good.
Dedication brings you an invite to the party. Even better!

But reciprocation–reciprocation gets you a VIP table with your own dancefloor!
